Senseless & Insensitive Chennai Traffic Cops

I just returned back home after attending a wedding reception but for a change with a heavy heart. No it has nothing to do with the marriage. I left home around 6.45pm and wading through the traffic reaching the Ega Theatre junction at about 7pm and was waiting for the signal to turn green to take a right to get into the Chetpet Over Bridge when I started to hear the ambulance siren and I checked my rear view mirror to find the ambulance right behind me stuck between the traffic. Unfortunately I was unable to move any further and was helpless. I just honked and tried to alert the police guy a furlong away but all my honks and shouting’s fell in deaf ears. I just prayed that the signal turn green but to add fuel to the fire the signal on the other end fell green and none bothered to stop nor did the police constables or the traffic sergeant tried to stop the incoming traffic so that I can move forward. After waiting impatiently for about 5 minutes the traffic light turned green and I moved aside and left the ambulance to move forward. I called up the sergeant and asked him what he was doing and he replied shamelessly “Where is the ambulance? And tried shouting at the poor constables standing on the other side of the road” It is not unusual for the cops to behave differently to the “worthless politicians” and “the innocent citizens” but what is heart breaking is their insensitive attitude even towards the public in immediate need of medical attention. I am sure everyone would agree that the traffic flows better in the absence of a traffic cop of a sergeant. Such senseless cops are actually violating the basic rights of the citizen to life guaranteed by the Indian Constitution.

Dear Venkatesh,

What is this jargon that you are writing in reply to my request for my statements for the month of Nov and Dec 2006?

Who is asking for approval for payments of purchases etc?

I feel this is not only highly irresponsible but also mischievous in intent.

Please send me my statements as requested.

Thank you,

COMMUNITY BLOGGER AWARD

Thanks to Mr.Blog King (Arun) who has awarded me with the Community Blogger Award. Prima Facie the concept itself is fresh and CUTE (:-)) brings a smile in the face of the winners and also boosts every one to make their blog more interesting...

And at this point I would request all the winners out there to equally contribute to my blog any issues that could be discussed to make Chennai a better place to be. I am sure everyone has lost all hope on the politicians of our country and they would only work hard to make our place a better place for themselves....

Dear Panthati,
Please see my response to your email below.

First thing. I do not understand why 2 different Customer Service Office answering a query and I am sure you did not read and understand the issue at hand nor my concern and I will let you know why I think so.

Your second line “We inform you that, any request regarding the credit card account or a change in the credit card account could only be taken from the primary cardholder.” has no relevency to the present matter. Once again shows that you have not read my email below addressed at 12.42pm.

Your 3rd line “We also clarify that we would be unable to disclose any account related information to you.” Agreed and understood and have hence requetsed you to email the client directly on my email at 03.29pm which I once again wonder whether you read or not.

Your 4th line “Further, we request the respective primary cardholder Mr.XXXXXXXX to write to us regarding her concerns.” Again I have written about her repeated several requests which should b avaliable on your email systems and if possible please advise what actions you have taken on her requests ob her several emails fromNovember 2007. Again you have not read my email below, to the extent that inspite of me clearly mentioning it is Mrs.XXXXXXX you address my client as Mr.XXXXXXXX.

Your 5th line “We hope you would appreciate that this is for the security of cardholder's credit card account.” As advised below am not a third person by the legal counsel of the card holder. If you have any issues in disclosing details to me you are supposed to contact her.

Your 6th line “We tried to contact the card holder on mobile number 9940XXXXX and XXXXXXXXXX at 6:00 pm, however you were not contactable.” This only shows the deficiency of service and the extent of ineffectiveness and the callous atttiude you show towards your customers. You have contacted the wrong number of my client inspite of the fact being that my client has received several calls from your customer care department reqiesting pending payments and her repeated requests for a statement fell on deaf ears. More so I have written very clearly on my emails below the contact number and email of the client and I once again would like to draw your attention to our attitude of copying and pasting pre formated replyied without understanding the concern. You have neither marked a copy of my email to the client till now even after according to you a thord party is having the card details of your customer and requsting details on her credit card. This show the extent of security lapse on your part.

In case of any questions you can reach me at my office numbers as found below or my mobile at 99400 67841 and you can also reach the client in her mobile number 99401 XXXXX.

Dear Mr.Vijay,

You called me a few hours back and assured me that you will send me the email statements. Now you write in something which is contradictory to what you promised. This matter has come to our office only after your Customer Care Officers have failed to send my client any statements even after several requests for which my client hold email acknowledgements as proof of request being served on you. Adding insult to injury you had an audacity to state that physical statements are charged beyond 3 months. I would like to draw your attention once again to my email below where I have made it clear for you that you have failed to send my client the physical statements. Even so with the interest of settling this matter, I have written to you and you revert to me stating the following.

Did you contact the client to verify the authenticity of my email below? If you had done so you would have either sent me the statements or would have emailed the statements to the client directly. It looks like your intention is merely to delay sending of the statements. When your bank offers a credit card, your marketing team calls up the client a thousand times and how difficult is it for you to contact the client and inform her that the statements would be sent only to her registered email id and proceed with sending the statements. Instead you have called me, promised me to send the statement and now you send me this email just to delay it further. In fact I have provided you with my client’s mobile number for your convenience even after which you send this pre formated email to me. Moreso your systems would have the previous communications with the client in this regard and you will also note that the email sent to you was copied to my client on her email id which is avaliable on your systems.

Kindly refrain from such unethical practises which would call for severe legal action. Please be informed that we are not a third party to this issue as I am the legal counsel for the card holder and the documents requested are the subject matter in question. I once again and for one last time request you to send the electronic statements either to me or to my client without any further delay failing which you and your company alone will be responsible as to all costs and consequenses.

Kindly mark a copy of all communications to my client at her email id XXXXXX@usa.com to keep her informed of the developments.

Thanks & Regards,

Dear Sirs,
Reg: Credit Card No: XXXX46XXXX38XXXX in the name of XXXXX XXXX XXXX.
My client Mrs.XXXXX XXXXXX, have placed the present matter in my hands and I write in respect of the same. I am being informed by my client that since her shifting of her residence from New Delhi to Hyderabad and thereafter to Chennai she has not received any of the credit card statements except the statement for the month of November 2008. This, inspite of her deligently writing to your Customer Care Department updating her change of address and requesting them to update the records as early as November 20, 2007. The said request had been acknowledged by Mr.Santhosh S, Office of Head – Customer Service, ICICI Bank Limited by reply email. Also jmy client has been consistently troubled with your continues calls and requests for payment without providing her with any statements.
There are also a chain of emails exchanged between my client and the Customer Care Department with respect of providing the statements and my client has made interim payments and have made several repeated requestes for a copy of the the statements, which unfortunately untill date has not be issued to the client.
Now your irresponsible acts had caused a lot of difficulty, money, pain, trauma and mental agony to my client. I hereby call upon you to immediately provide me or my client with a copy of the statements starting from the month of July 2007 or from the month on which the first outstanding payment have arisen up to the current month at the earliest either by email(preferred) or by post within 15 days of receipt failing which I would be constrained to take up this matter before the judicial forums in the interest of Justice.
In case of any questions you can reach me at my office numbers as found below or my mobile at 99400 67841 and you can also reach the client in her mobile number XXXXX XXXXX.
Thanks & Regards,

India 26/11/2008 - We salute our heros

Though this blog was only to write issues happening or related to Chennai, I take the liberty to put down my views on the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Yes I have given the heading India because I see this not as an attack on Mumbai but on India.

It heart breaking news that an iconic structure such as Taj was almost tore apart by the terrorists but for our NSG commandoes, Army and the Air force. The ATS as the Anti Terrorist Squad is often called nor the Mumbai Police had any clue of the magnitude of the attact even after the chief of the ATS and other police officers of the Mumbai Police was taken down by the terrorists. Only thereafter the Mumbai government decided to call in the NSG. However it took more than 10 hours for the NSG to reach Mumbai to start terrorists flushing operations. the delay is crucial since it gives sufficiant time for the terrorists to take vantage points for attacking. Shortly we lost a brave and daring officer Major Unni Krishnan of the NSG. Finally the operations ended on Saturday and the sanitising operations began in the Taj.

The attacks were so well planned with terrorists checking out the complete geography of the locations such as the Taj, Trident Oberoi, Nariman house, the railway stations under attack, rather I would go to the extent to say had a rehersal before the actual strike. they carried satellite phones, black berry and arms of all kind.

Immediately after the operations were completed the anger poured out by the residents of Mumbai against politicians that nothing had been done, but giving it a second thought it is us the public who has choosen them to lead us. The press and the media is no saint with taking the opportunity to conduct talk shows on the reactions of the public, am sure the same press and media is going to stop all these in the next few days and carry on with their business. The same was the stoy after the Mumbai train blasts, blasts in Bangalore and Delhi. None of them would have the guts to question the politicians. Having said that, I should mention and appreciate the three big guys in media namely Roy (NDTV), Arnab (Times Now) and Rajdeep (CNN-IBN) who were all out to question the politicians and I only pray that these three big guys keep this going and get our politicians to answer their questions. We have hundreds of questions but all we can do is only blog or discuss with our friends. But if these three guys take this forward am sure there will be a change.

It is sad that the Mumbai government reacts by saying that the terrorists were here to kill 5,000 which otherwise means that the deaths are only 200 and odd so why make it a big issue. They also had the guts to say that "these things happen in big cities" and still get away with it.

Now getting back, I was discussing with my friends on the complete failure of the Indian Intelligence namely IB and RAW. But it was shocking to know that our Indian government had intelligence reports about the attack on Mumbai through sea as early as September. The PMO merely ignored the same assuming that it was not credible.

At this point there are few questions that come to my mind ........ atleast if I am to ask a few; what are we going to do now? How are we going to avoid such future attacks? Do we have a crisis management plan? Are we still going to allow the use of the NSG for running behind the cars of ministers rather than engaging them in proper anti terrorism actions? Would we still look at the vote banks before we decide on punishing a terrorist who has been convicted by the Supreme Court of India? Are we enacting any anti terrorism laws? Are we allocating funds for higher security and better arms rather than the 303 rifles held by our policemen?
Where are our tax monies? Would there be another corruption scandal in buying arms?

Last but not the least, I only wish our leaders learn by watching other leaders atleast the basic minimum mannerisms of handling an issue rather than just pointing your fingers on the opposition party or any other third country.

to be continued ............

Whos median is it anyway?

Every political party using public property in the best effective way. Hundreds of party flag poles put on the center median of every road by digging the median.
Oh right, how only can we give contracts for maintaining and re buildin medians? Same is the story with roads and political party banners.
